Cascade baryons: Mass spectrum and photoproduction

An overview of the experimental and theoretical studies on the strangeness -2 Cascade baryons will be given. Especially, the differences of various model predictions on the excited states of Cascade baryons will be discussed, and recent predictions based on the Skyrme soliton model will be given. In the Skyrme model, the approximate equal mass-spacing pattern between the hyperons of the same spin but of opposite parity is observed, and the predicted mass spectrum will be compared with the experimental data. Then the photoproduction mechanisms of the Cascade ground state, Ξ(1320), will be discussed and compared with the recent data from the CLAS Collaboration of JLab.
