φ and ω mesons in a nuclear medium and the nuclear photoproduction reaction II

Abstract:

Recent experimental results from p-A and nuclear photoproduction reactions suggest that nuclear medium effects have been observed in the distribution of the vector meson decay products (ex: φ → K+K-, e+e-; ω → π0γ), although a direct interpretation in terms of modified vector meson mass and/or decay width is not straightforward.

After a summary of our discussion about the φ-meson selfenergy in the nuclear medium and the φ-photoproduction reaction (subjects of my previous talk), I will concentrate on the ω-meson properties. A schematic calculation in a selfenergy approach shows that sizeable changes in the ω-decay width may be expected in a nuclear environment, which could be tested by measuring the A-dependence of the ω nuclear photoproduction cross section. Such an experiment is currently being analyzed by the CB-TAPS (ELSA) Collaboration in Bonn.
