Investigation of Hadronic Resonances in STAR

Abstract:

Due to their short lifetimes (few fm/c) resonances are used as probes to investigate the properties and the formation of the fireball. Yields and spectra of resonances such as the Σ(1385) are measured in p+p, d+Au and Au+Au collisions at √s=200 GeV by the STAR collaboration.

The collision dynamics are studied with the Σ(1385)/Λ ratio in comparison to other resonance/stable particle ratios in these collision environments. This allows us to explore the re-scattering and regeneration effects between chemical and thermal freeze-out and estimate the lifetime of the hadronic phase. The pT dependent medium effects are investigated via the nuclear modification factors. The implications of these results on various models are discussed.
