− Identifying
the microscopic degrees of freedom of the QGP constitutes one of
the principal
challenges of Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions. In this talk, I will show
how to use make a
link direct link between long-range correlations, measured by STAR
and ALICE,
and charge-charge fluctuations measured by lattice gauge theory. These correlations provide
insight into
whether quarks move independently in the QGP. In addition to identifying
the degrees of
freedom, I will explain how experimental correlations might
validate or
disprove the canonical understanding of the chemical evolution of
a heavy-ion
collision.
